SM #5 - LOCAL BUY/SELL PAPERS

In several of the cities that I have hunted for bicycles, there is a weekly periodical classified advertisements listed in magazines/flyers like Buy/Sell.  I have found periodicals such as these to be a great source for finding bicycles.  Competition, however, will be keen and you might not get a really good deal.

To get a good deal, you must be FAST!  Review the periodical, the day it reaches the stands, and act!  This is another one of those "worm and Early Bird" issues, discussed earlier.

Had I not followed this fundamental advice I would have missed out on an early eighties Olma.  That's right - Olma, which turned out to be Olmo and wearing a pretty nice but partial Campagnolo Nouvo Record grouppo.  The price?  Forty dollars and a second bike offered for free.

Be forewarned about the local Buy/Sell periodical release day.  It is quite likely, in today's On-Line world, that the information, picked up at a local news stand, will have been published On-Line, the day before.

Though the paper advertisement is Old School thinking in today's on-line world, many older people, you know the ones who are most likely to have old road bicycles tucked away, are Old School thinkers.  Even I still put advertisements in newspapers, and the like.  But I do prefer to use on-line opportunities, when I can, simply for the sake of convenience.

So, keep an eye open and test the waters with a Buy/Sell periodical.  You just might find yourself a pretty decent Olma.
