BUILDING THE TREK 400 I did not build the Trek 400. I inspected the bicycle carefully, lubricated the easy to get at stuff, and tuned the bike up. Tuning was a non event, since the darn thing was in very good condition and had not been used enough to go out of tune. I pressurized the completely flat tires, removed the toe straps for the test ride, and away the two of us went. Commenting on the Trek's ride qualities is something that I really cannot do, since the bicycle was way too small for me. Everything worked, exactly as it was intended to, but I still could not get a feel for the ride. I couldn't even get a reasonable leg extension, when pedaling. All that said, when I consider the apparent quality of construction, coupled with the quality materials and a user friendly component grouppo, I cannot help but believe that the lady who owns the bicycle now, really appreciates the ride, this lovely old American bicycle offers.
