SPECIALIZED JUNKER II - INTRODUCTION

For some reason and in spite of the fact the the USA is Canada's closest neighbour, few made in the USA bicycles seem to have reached Thunder Bay.  Of the couple of Schwinns, a Cannondale or two and and a couple more from Specialized.  That's about all that have managed to cross the 49th parallel and found their way into The Old Shed.

The Specialized road bicycle feature is the one and only stolen bicycle to have knowingly entered the collection, or even the inventory contained inside that dilapidated storage facility.  Additionally, it is one of two, perhaps identical bicycles, both of which were of Specialized origin, and from the Allez family.

Based primarily on the component numbers, the most likely vintage for the bicycle would be 1991-1912.  Though some components had been changed out, there were enough of the original group left to offer adequate information to, with a fair degree of accuracy, determine the vintage of the bike.

At first glance, this old American made Velo steed would hardly earn a second glance.  And that would prove to be one of its most appealing features.  The second highly appealing feature, has nothing to do with the bicycle itself.  No, but it does have something to do with the very unusual story surrounding the finding of this absolutely wonderful old road bicycle.
