APOLLO GRAN TOURISTE - INTRODUCTION

I believe that Apollo bicycles were imported from Japan, in the early seventies, in an effort to accommodate the bike boom, that occurred back then.  Fred Deeley might have been the importer, basing his business out of Vancouver.  The oldest Apollo, I have seen, was fitted with a nice old head badge, bearing the Deeley name.  However, I have no evidence to back up any of those statements.  I have stumbled across several old Apollo bicycles and all were tagged with the Deeley emblem.  I am going on what I guess to be true, about this old Asian bicycle and its appearance in Canada.

What I am certain of is the quality built into this lovely Apollo Gran Touriste.  I have been lucky enough to own, a couple of other vintage, full touring road bikes and the Apollo is equal to any, including my eighties something Miyata 1000 Grand Touring, that was, reputedly, one of the best touring bicycles ever made.

When I found the Apollo Gran Touriste, I was immediately impressed with the overall appearance of quality, supported by a bevy of little details, that all added up to a well thought out and executed bicycle.
