THE DUMP FOUND LEGNANO - INTRODUCTION FREE AND A VINTAGE MILESTONE This late sixties or early seventies Legnano was acquired and built up for virtually no cost. No effort was made to change the bicycle from its "as found" appearance or condition, other than to ensure that everything was functioning as it should. I used recycled cycle parts only. Nothing new, other than the lubricant, was installed on this old road bike. I might add that it was on this wonderful old Italian bicycle I first developed a real appreciation for the vintage ride qualities that Old School bicycles, like the Legnano, offer. Riding this entry level bicycle was a milestone in my vintage road bicycle collecting/riding career. Sure, I like to ride a top of the line road bicycles as much as the next guy. But, as I get older and the testosterone count drops, I have come to understand that I enjoy a more relaxed approach to riding. When sitting an Old School mount, with all of its antiquated technology at my fingertips, I slow down. I still get a pretty good workout but I see a lot more as I am doing so. I choose "the amount of time" to ride, rather than the distance to cover. When I used to commute to and from the Paper Mill, I was always conscious of how long it took me to go each way, each time. Best time for the eight mile journey - 26 minutes. Slowest time - three and a half months. Now there is a story! NEXT - FINDING THE DUMP LEGNANO
