BUILDING MISTAKES & THE MOSER

Remember, the Moser project was the second bicycle that I had built completely.  And, I did learn from the Francesco Moser building experience.  I learned that it is easy to get a really nice vintage road bicycle, provided you are willing to spend a few bucks. Quite a few, if you are not careful I might add.

I got all caught up in the emotional side of building the Francesco Moser and that costs money!  If I saw a complete Francesco Moser for sale on Ebay back then for what I invested, I would not have looked twice.  I could have easily purchased a full Campy Cinelli for what I had spent on the Moser.  If offered a complete Campagnolo grouppo for a large wad of cash, I would slow down and make sure I knew what I was buying.  A Colnago Super with a full Super Record grouppo went for $405.00 the same week I had the Moser for sale.  And finally, something I should have already known, thanks to the "Big Green" experience.  Do not invest a lot of time and money, until you are first sure that the bicycle fits you properly!  Fortunately, the fit issue never surfaced, since I never did ride the Moser.

I just didn't feel right about being the guy to ride this bicycle the first time.  Yep, another emotionally driven decision, but that is exactly why I didn't ride the bicycle.  I wanted that opportunity saved for the person who would become the Moser's new owner.  And that is how I sold the bicycle - unridden.  I have often wondered how things worked out for the fellow who bought the bicycle.  I hope that it proved to be all that I thought it would.
