THE 1987 BIANCHI VOLPE - INTRODUCTION
Many bicycles have found their way into The Old Shed, but
as nearly as I can recall, this 1987 Bianchi Volpe is the first, of Cyclocross design. When first granted the opportunity to view,
I immediately thought the Volpe to be a touring bicycle.
However, the more I got to know this lovely, and incredibly well
preserved, old steed, the more inclined I became to think it to have
cross heritage, more that touring.
An absolutely beautiful bicycle, fitted with a great
component grouppo, and capable of negotiating loose gravel cottage
roads, this great old bike just about made the cut for permanent
keepership.
Sadly, even though the call was extremely close, I deemed
the Wolf, that, incidentally is what Volpe means in the Italian
language, was too small and I had to let it go. This lovely old
bicycle made a return voyage, crossing the Atlantic Ocean for a second time, this
time returning to Europe, Spain, to be exact.
