JEUNET MIXTE - INTRODUCTION

It was not all that long ago that any kind of Step
Through frame design would have been worth little or nothing at all in
the vintage road bicycle world. However, that has changed
dramatically as this beautiful seventies something French bicycle
demonstrated recently. Though I
know little about mixte frame sets, I have been told that the mixte
frame design is considerably stronger that the single top tube Step
Through design of its
cousins. I cannot verify any comments on
structural integrity but I will report that the mixte frame can command
as much as, and sometimes more, than a comparable diamond frame design.
Of course, any comparison might be unfair since this particular old
French bicycle "as found" was in near mint condition. And the
aesthetics of the bicycle must have also added to the value.
Perhaps it is needless to say, but the Jeunet bicycle is
of French origin and the French threading dilemma presents itself
immediately. However, the threading thing would prove to be no
issue with this wonderfully preserved and very little used old road
bicycle. Nothing would have to be replaced other that tires and
perhaps brake pads and cables.
