BUILDING THE VELO SPORT CRITERIUM "As found", the Criterium needed nothing, not even tires. The shop I bought the bicycle from had already prepared the Velo for resale. Since the bike had been hanging around the shop, for a quite a while, both literally and figuratively, I was given a good deal.
Preparation at the bike shop included all new
cables and cable casings. Brake pads, tires and inner tubes were all brand
new. Even the handlebar tape had been replaced. With

items installed, the bike was completely tuned up in
accordance with the owner's wishes. Then it
I did inspect the bicycle carefully before taking it out for a "see how it feels" spin. Other than pressurize the tires and drip some "Prolink" on the chain, there was nothing else that needed doing.
