SEKINE SHT 270 - INTRODUCTION This mid seventies Sekine SHT 270 is one of my favourite bicycles and has been in the collection longer than any other. It is a joy to ride, very well made and a pleasure to view. Canadian made Sekines of the SHT's quality level are becoming increasingly difficult to find in today's vintage bicycle scene. Sekine road bicycles were first made in Canada. Production and ownership later moved to Japan. Canadian made Sekines enjoyed a production run of several years, with the best guess being 1972 to 1978. Though fifteen S series models were offered, only three were made from Champion Butted Chrome Moly tubing. The extremely rare SHX-270 Professional was the top of the line offering, followed by the SHT-270 and the SHT-271. The three top of the line frame sets were pretty much identical, however; the SHX-270 sported full chrome plating and is easily identified by the chrome plated head tube lugs. Both the SHT models offered chrome plating only on the fork blades, seat and chain stays. The SHT-270 and 271 could best be identified though component choice. Later Canadian made Sekines adopted different model designations, with the PR-10 being the top dog of the time, followed by the RM-10. Both of these later Canadian made high end Sekines offered Tange Champion tube sets.
