RIDING THE SEKINE SHS 270 This original Sekine SHS-270 is a pretty nice bicycle, but certainly not in the performance sense. Its wide range cog set, coupled with a heavy component group go together with the Safety Lever brakes, suggesting recreational purpose primarily. However, an upgraded version of this old steed will produce a bicycle that performs quite nicely. And I should know. My own Sekine SHT-270 is just that. Upgraded with a full Shimano 600 Arabesque grouppo. A vintage road bicycle is not just its frame set in my humble opinion. Though the red SHS's ride was very nice, it did not compare with that offered by my own SHT-270. Both bikes are of 1975 vintage, as nearly as I can tell, but my bike is smoother, more agile and responds better to pedal effort. And the only difference is the components used. Then, of course, I might be a bit biased.
