1987 NORCO MONTEREY SL - INTRODUCTION

Although Norco is considered to be a Canadian bicycle company, some Norco bicycles were built in Japan and assembled in Canada, this clean old example of one of those, built there but assembled here.

Birthing in 1964, Norco was formed under the leadership of Bert Lewis, in Burnaby, British Columbia, the most westerly province of Canada.  Six years later, a second distribution center was opened in Toronto, Ontario and from the bicycles began to flow to many corners of the planet.

Norco offers as many as 140 bicycle models and distributes those most appropriate to over twenty countries, with Canada, needless to say, being the leader in that list.  Not only did Norco achieve wide distribution but the company was one of the first in Canada to both build and design bicycles, with mountain bicycles leading the design and development forefront for several years.

Well made and supported, the Norco bicycle has achieved a following similar to many of its competitors.  The bicycle, generally, sports little in the super exotic arena, satisfied to target the recreational or touring crowd.  That said, some pretty impressive Norco road bicycles, this Norco Magnum SE and the Magnum GT being two pretty special examples...
